Questions
What does the percentile mean?
The 26th percentile means that out of 100 healthy children of the same age and sex, about 26 weigh less and 74 weigh more. Anything from the 3rd to the 97th is in the usual range. A child who stays near the same line is growing steadily, whichever line it is.
When should I ask a doctor?
The app says so when a measurement is below the 3rd or above the 97th percentile, or when weight or length has crossed two of the chart lines (3rd, 15th, 50th, 85th, 97th) since the last time, such as from the 60th down to the 10th. It also asks you to check numbers that are very far from usual, which are often typing mistakes. Always ask if you are worried, whatever the chart says.
Which chart does it use?
The WHO Child Growth Standards (2006) from birth to 5 years, the charts used in Pakistan, India, the UK (from 2 weeks) and many other countries. After 5 years the WHO 0 to 5 chart stops; ask your doctor for the 5 to 19 years chart.
My baby was born early.
Tap + Born early? and type the weeks of pregnancy at birth. Before 37 weeks the chart uses the corrected age: a baby born at 34 weeks (6 weeks early) who is 10 weeks old is compared with 4-week-old babies. This is used until 2 years of real age. Before the due date the WHO chart does not apply; your doctor uses a chart for babies born early.
Length or height?
Under 2 years children are measured lying down (length); from 2 years standing up (height). Standing height is usually about 0.7 cm less, and the WHO lines allow for this at 2 years.
Is it private? Does it work offline?
Your children's details stay in this browser on this device: no account, and your data is never sent anywhere. The WHO tables are inside the app, so it works with no connection once loaded. Use Save a backup file to move to a new phone.
