Questions
What blood sugar should I aim for?
The American Diabetes Association's general targets for adults are 80 to 130 mg/dL (4.4 to 7.2 mmol/L) fasting and before meals, and under 180 mg/dL (10.0 mmol/L) 1 to 2 hours after starting a meal. In pregnancy they are lower: under 95 (5.3) fasting, under 140 (7.8) one hour after a meal and under 120 (6.7) two hours after. Older people and children often have different targets. Your doctor may give you your own: choose My doctor's targets and type them in.
What do Low, Very low and Very high mean?
Low is under 70 mg/dL (3.9 mmol/L) and Very low under 54 mg/dL (3.0 mmol/L), whatever the targets. Very high is 250 mg/dL (13.9 mmol/L) or more. If your meter shows LO or HI, type that: LO counts as very low, HI as very high, and neither is put into the averages.
When should I check?
Do what your doctor or nurse asked. Common times are fasting when you wake up, before meals, 2 hours after the start of a meal, at bedtime, and whenever you feel shaky, sweaty or unwell. Choose the time with each reading so the averages are worked out for each time of day.
How is the average worked out? How do mg/dL and mmol/L convert?
All the readings for that time of day are added up and divided by how many there are, then rounded (0.5 rounds up): whole numbers in mg/dL, one decimal in mmol/L. 1 mmol/L is 18.016 mg/dL, so 126 mg/dL is 7.0 mmol/L. Each reading is kept exactly as you typed it, so switching the unit never changes your data. A reading after midnight but before 4 a.m. counts with the day before.
Can it show my HbA1c?
No. An HbA1c guess needs many readings at all hours, such as from a sensor (CGM); a few finger-prick readings a day can give a misleading number. Your HbA1c comes from a blood test.
Can I log for two people?
Yes. Tap + Add another person in Person and settings. Each person has their own readings, unit and targets. Tap a name at the top to switch.
Is it private? Does it work offline?
The readings stay in this browser on this device: no account, and your data is never sent anywhere. Once loaded, the app works with no connection. Save a backup file now and then, or before changing phones.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is a log to help you and your doctor. Follow your doctor's advice and targets, and get help straight away for a low that does not come up or a high with vomiting or fast breathing.
