Questions

What is the difference between "use by" and "best before"?

"Use by" is about safety: do not eat the food after that date, even if it looks and smells fine. "Best before" is about quality: the food is often still fine after it, so look at it, smell it and taste a little first. Medicines have an expiry date: do not use them after it, and take old ones back to a pharmacy instead of putting them in the bin.

The pack only shows a month and a year. Which day is that?

The last day of that month. "EXP 03/2027" means it can be used until 31 March 2027. Choose "Month and year only" and pick the month and the year.

How does "Keeps once opened" work?

Many packs say "Once opened, use within 3 days", and many eye drops last 28 days once opened. Add the day you opened it and how many days it keeps: opened on Sat 17 Oct with 3 days, use it by Tue 20 Oct. If the date on the pack comes first, that date counts. Tap Opened on an item to add this later.

What goes in "Use soon"?

Food that has 3 days or less left, and medicines with 30 days or less, so there is time to buy a new one before you need it. Everything is sorted by date, the soonest first.

How do the calendar reminders work?

Calendar on an item, or Add all dates to my calendar, saves a calendar file. Open it to add all-day events to your phone's or computer's calendar. Food reminds you at 9 am the day before and at 9 am on the day; medicines 30 days and 7 days before.

What is the shopping list?

Everything you marked Used up or Thrown away in the last 30 days that is not back in your list, one line each, ready to paste into a message or a notes app.

Is it private? Does it work offline?

Your list stays in this browser on this device: no account, and your data is never sent anywhere. Use Save a backup file to move it to a new phone. Once loaded, the app works with no connection. This app is a reminder, not food safety or medical advice: when in doubt, throw it out or ask a pharmacist.
