Questions
How should I take my blood pressure at home?
Sit for 5 minutes first with your back supported, feet flat and arm resting at heart height. No coffee, smoking or exercise in the 30 minutes before. Take 2 readings about a minute apart, in the morning before tablets and food, and in the evening. Add both readings to the log.
How is the average worked out?
All the top numbers are added up and divided by how many readings there are, then the same for the bottom numbers. The result is rounded to a whole number (0.5 rounds up). Morning is 4:00 to 11:59; evening is 12:00 until 3:59 at night, so a reading at 12:30 a.m. counts as the evening before.
Why leave out the first day?
The first day's readings are often higher while you get used to the monitor. UK guidance (NICE) asks for at least 4 days, ideally 7, of morning and evening readings, and for the first day to be left out of the average. Tick Leave out the first day to do this.
What do the ranges mean?
UK and Europe home guide (NICE, ESH), for home averages: normal under 135/85, stage 1 range from 135/85, stage 2 range from 150/95, very high from 180/120. US guide (American Heart Association): normal under 120/80, elevated 120 to 129 with under 80, stage 1 130 to 139 or 80 to 89, stage 2 from 140/90, severe over 180 or over 120. Under 90/60 is shown as low in both. Only one number needs to be in a higher range for the reading to count in it.
A reading was very high. What should I do?
If you also have chest pain, shortness of breath, back pain, weakness or numbness, a change in vision or trouble speaking, call emergency services. If not, sit quietly for 5 minutes and measure again. If it is still very high, contact your doctor the same day.
Can I log for two people?
Yes. Tap + Add another person in Person and settings. Each person has their own readings, guide and target. Tap a name at the top to switch.
Is it private? Does it work offline?
The readings stay in this browser on this device: no account, and your data is never sent anywhere. Once loaded, the app works with no connection. Save a backup file now and then, or before changing phones.
Is this medical advice?
No. It is a log and a calculator to help you and your doctor. Follow your doctor's advice and targets.
